OUR PASSIVE-SOLAR DEHYDRATION SHED (shown, below left) is where we dry, process and package the awapuhi ginger root before it is sent to John Paul Mitchell Systems in California. All of the ginger root used in Paul Mitchell hair care products is grown organically here at the Awapuhi Farm. It is unearthed in the winter after the leaves and flowers (shown, left) die back. The root is ground and placed on racks in the drying chamber (shown, below right) where heat from the sun slowly dries the root (shown, bottom left). Then it is further ground into a powder and packaged in sealed bags (shown, bottom right) to be shipped to the manufacturing plant.
